What is all this?

Tales from the Oasis is an Actual Play Cyberpunk Podcast set in an original futuristic dystopian setting – The Oasis.

We record our live podcast material bi-weekly with players from across the globe, and Artemis edits it together into weekly, 20ish minute episodes, with the feel and tone of a radio play.

WARNING: Some content in Tales from the Oasis may include descriptions of graphic violence, and other disturbing content.

What is an ‘Actual Play Cyberpunk Podcast’?

To put it simply, it’s an interactive and responsive story where neither the narrator, the characters, or the audience know what’s going to happen next!

We record the raw audio during several hour ‘sessions’, where the actors perform as their characters in real-time. One additional person, the ‘narrator’ serves as both storyteller and referee, both using and referencing rules from the Cyberpunk: RED Tabletop RPG, and creating/improvising/adapting stories for the different characters.

Later, the narrator (Artemis Ronan) edits the session audio into tight 20 minute segments, removing unnecessary content, adding a soundtrack and sound effects, and transforming the raw recordings into enjoyable, bite-sized radio play episodes!

So everyone just makes stuff up?

Not quite! While the players can choose to do whatever they want with their characters, they are still constrained by the laws of physics, reality, the people, places, and resources available to them, and how all of those factors will react when the players do something. The narrator is responsible for providing realistic reactions and consequences to the players actions.

When the narrator is unsure how a players action will play out, or there’s a risk involved in accomplishing something, we use the ruleset from R. Talsorian Games’ Cyberpunk: RED Tabletop RPG to decide what the outcome is. This usually involves consulting charts, and rolling some dice, with the narrator interpreting the result of the dice to determine what happens next.

What is ‘The Oasis’?

Some call it a legend – maybe some nomad was babbling about in a dark corner of a seedy bar. High on one too many experimental chemicals, probably, but rumors spread…

Others say it’s real – or at least it was, at some point. There’s so much misinformation out there these days, who can really tell?

A few cynics are certain it’s a trap, invented to lure people out in desert to be preyed upon and murdered. The raiders have been getting desperate lately, and It certainly *sounds* too good to be true…
A glittering city, hidden somewhere in the desert, untouched by war and bombings… Residents wearing strange, exotic cyberware, years ahead of the time… Quite a tall tale on it’s own.

But then they stretch it further, claim there’s fresh meat and produce for ‘anyone willing to work’? Yeah, right.

Still… there are others that swear – if you meet the right person, fill the pockets of the right fixers, and get incredibly lucky with some good intel… there’s a caravan you can join, that’ll take you there.

One thing’s for sure though – For all the people that say they’re ‘heading to the Oasis’…

You don’t hear of many people that come back.
